Mike Landay

Mike Landay has been a member of the Nethergate Writers for about three years, and during this time has benefited greatly from perceptive and constructive feedback received from other members. He currently serves as Membership Secretary, and has recently helped to edit, typeset and publish the group’s latest collection of short stories: Living with the Machine.

Mike has written over 30 short (and not so short) fictions. His longest work to date, the novella Sisters United, examines the relationships between two sisters as they deal with a manipulative government agent in a near-future surveillance-state Scotland. One sister is alive. The other, long dead, appears as an AI-powered ultra-realistic hologram.

Current projects include (a) a speculative fiction novel set in a dystopian Scotland in which euthanasia clinics abound and the surprising claims of a cosmic being drive the actions of the main characters; and (b) an adventure featuring conflict resolution between grungy chip-eating urban gulls and their cliff-dwelling cultish cousins.

Mike worked as a freelance translator of scientific and technical Japanese for many years. Although he is a pessimist about the planetary situation and is daunted by the irrationality and short-termism of the human animal, he is blessed with intractable cheerfulness.
