It’s National Poetry Day today, so here’s something from one our group’s poets – Richard Gillies<\/em><\/p>\n

Tedious Talks on Telemetry<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rehearsed smugness, wry smile,
\nI agree with the sentiment it\u2019s all vile.
\nLet\u2019s return a certain uncertainty, tripping on a wire,
\nAll this mock gravitas, it\u2019s patently dire.<\/p>\n

Oh for a little deliberation, some shuffling of notes,
\nOr misattributed adages and vulgar anecdotes.
\na pitcher of water, but no glass in tow,
\na little more unpreparedness, a little less good to go.<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s not what you know, but how you deport,
\nWaving your arms, like a semaphore hill fort.
\nPointing with laser power, with all its pointless charm,
\nProphesying a chain reaction like a chain-smoking smoke alarm.<\/p>\n

Stating the bleeding obvious with ill-advised \u00e9lan,
\nStanding so imperious because of course you can.
\nAsking important questions that no one knows for why,
\nStressing with yogic hands like some enlightened guy.<\/p>\n

So why not turn off your smartphone and go for a walk,
\nAnd work off that pork pie and make the neighbours talk.
\nYou will hear more sense from spoke clackers on a bike,
\nThan some bumptious blogger wearing an over-ear mike.<\/p>\n
