The project remains unfinished, and could be resurrected in the context of our contacts with Pitlochry Festival Theatre.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>To be raised on 15 March at our meeting with Elizabeth Newman.<\/p>\n<p><b>2.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Writing.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Anthology pieces to be sent to Craig by <b>29 February, <\/b>marked with author\u2019s name, title of piece, and Final Draft.<\/p>\n<p>The first three pieces read had been seen and discussed by the group previously. They are almost at final draft stage.<\/p>\n<p>Sue\u2019s story, <b>December at the Theatre Royal, <\/b>was the first story read. This is a convincing ghost story, with lively dialogue and engaging interactions between the girls, and then with the boys they meet up with. The characters are revealed and developed in striking detail.<\/p>\n<p>One comment concerned the use of the word \u2018dating\u2019, perhaps not in use at the time of the story.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nethergatewriters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Curtains.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-576\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nethergatewriters.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Curtains.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"535\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nethergatewriters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Curtains.jpg 800w, https:\/\/nethergatewriters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Curtains-600x401.jpg 600w, https:\/\/nethergatewriters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Curtains-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/nethergatewriters.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/Curtains-768x514.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Next up was <b>Oh Miss Hepburn<\/b> by Rosie.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>A few punctuation changes were suggested, and the use of \u2018ducks\u2019 was questioned.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Rosie mentioned that where appropriate, an indication of where on the Nethergate the stories in the anthology took place would come at the end of each.<\/p>\n<p>We very much enjoyed this story and commented on the continuing relevance of its themes.<\/p>\n<p>Aileen\u2019s <b>Chimera, with Kippers<\/b> is set in a fish and chip shop in cyberspace where Churchill and Shackleton meet and converse.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The dialogue fairly zips along, and the two protagonists, much alike in character, are distinguished one from the other in a most skilful way.<\/p>\n<p>There were comments about clarifying who was speaking on occasions. A highly enjoyable and enjoyed story.<\/p>\n<p><b>Sweet Streams.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p>\u2018We\u2019ve all been there\u2019 &#8211; was the first comment after Richard had read his story &#8211; a musing on insomnia which developed into a tense drama &#8211; but with laugh out loud humour. There were some questions about the shifting view point, and the overt naming of the character, but this was a story that was hugely enjoyed by all of us.<\/p>\n<p>There was no time to discuss Fraser\u2019s and Craig\u2019s final drafts, but members were asked to send comments directly to them.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting finished with Rupert\u2019s <b>Exclusive:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>New Deaths Revealed.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/b>There was insufficient time too do justice to this dystopian vision of a highly topical theme &#8211; a pandemic out of control &#8211; and the fateful consequences for society.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Rupert has written this as part of a course he is doing, and the topic was \u2018what makes you afraid\u2019.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The descriptions are both detailed and chilling, with no appearance of an optimistic outcome.<\/p>\n<p>Our next meeting is on <b>11 March.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span><\/b>Richard will chair, with Rupert the Note taker.<\/p>\n<p>David C.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>2 march 2020.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>David Carson brings you all the details from our most recent meeting.
