Zusana Storrier

Zusana’s flash fiction, short stories, novellas and novels often deal with hidden disadvantage and obliquely rebellious characters. She’s as much at home writing realist fiction as she is creating Gothic or speculative fiction, or for that matter, magical realism.

Her work has been published in the UK and in North America, via podcasts, anthologies and literary journals, including Tether’s End MagazineKalopsia Literary Journal and Pushing Out the Boat. She was long-listed both for the Mslexia Short Story Competition in 2021 and for the JBA Debut Novel Award in 2023, and she’s been a member of the wonderful Nethergate Writers – her first writing group – for over five years. She’s also a founder member of the Wee Tales flash fiction review-magazine group.

At the moment, she’s trying, and failing, to not distract herself with flash fiction and short stories. She’s looking for a publisher for her first novel (a historical thriller), writing two more novels (both of which started life as novellas, one spooky, the other tight-lippedly romantic), and has written the first chapter of – hopefully – novel number four (an archangelic tale). That’s almost certainly way too many novels to have on the go at one time, but she’s trying to make the most of a three-month-long ‘writing sabbatical’, which her very patient and generous partner is heroically subbing. Despite her determination, progress on the novel suite has been lumpy, and involved a lot of chocolate.
